No sound but the wind as it whispered the secrets of earth to the

9 N. l# j! B7 u And the hum of the yellow bees, honey-laden and dusty with pollen.

The wind, and the bees, and the flowers, all singing the great song

; }' _$ n: h+ b. ?0 w! M( S/ ]3 ~* H Not blue and splashing, but dark, rolling somberly on to the ocean.
; a U M/ ^- b, X7 O: D* U: U But on the far side is a city whose windows flame gold in the sunset.
& y# e9 G! t% e' r% Q+ E3 D/ I It lies fair and shining before him, a gem set betwixt sky and water,8 M8 z, v9 M( G
And spanning the river a bridge, frail promise to longing desire,
H- [, |, \* ^1 ^: w Flung by man in his infinite courage, across the stern force of
$ V- l$ X' ]2 y" H4 |5 N9 s the water;8 v6 T- h! R! K" ]- q% E; a8 b0 r
And he looks at the river and fears, the bridge is so slight,2 E! h( q% ]' M( I7 z6 D
yet he ventures" f* s4 J# @& N% P# V0 U
His life to its fragile keeping, if it fails the waves will engulf0 j7 z+ _) j4 Q9 ~
him.
8 o3 H: S; k% J% _7 ~ O Arches! be strong to uphold him, and bear him across to the city,# N3 d2 d, k3 R) v' u
The beautiful city whose spires still glow with the fires of sunset!
